You’ll find the Moonsha restaurant at 5 Zhong Shan Dong or, as most foreigners know it, 5 the Bund. Situated on the third floor below the much famed restaurant ‘5 on the Bund’, Moonsha is very different from its illustrious neighbour. It mixes high quality Japanese cuisine with a décor that, with its deep red and black colours, is reminiscent of Shanghai back in the 20’s and 30’s.
This is no ordinary Tatami seating, bamboo trimmed partition, loud sake drunken patrons that serves your typical Japanese fair.
The experience starts from actually finding the place; it is an adventure if you are up for it.
A beautiful historic French villa with a huge garden that looks gorgeous when viewed from the dining tables on the second floor. The interior decor comprises modern tables and chairs with clean lines, and comfortable low lighting.
The restaurant is adorned with iconic echoes of Ainu (a Japanese island) culture - including native fish-eating bears and giant red crabs.
The gentle sound of water guides diners up to the restaurant, where Japanese-style balconies, sofas and traditional music wait to greet them.
