The Intercontinental Shanghai Expo is a new and dynamic 5-star hotel that offers its guests superior service and unmatched quality in every possible way. Within the gorgeous hallways, walking along an exquisitely-colored carpet that resembles the Pudong River, I was introduced to Café 1188.
It was one of those grand, red granite lobbies. Bold and familiar; I felt like I had been there before. They do not make them like this nowadays. They really do not – the Huating Hotel is a fantastic and opulent example of the high end hotels that sprang up in the big cities in China in the 80s and 90s. The hotels that would welcome delegates, domestic and foreign, and high end guests travelling China in the post-reform era. Robust and confident architecture reflecting growing economic strength, growing optimism.
Five Star dining should not be exclusive to dishes that often can be a challenge to envision, let alone pronounce. At Sheraton’s (Pudong New District) The Feast’s regular dinner and lunch menus offers both, the rare and exquisite alongside the familiar, which retains the 5-Star touch.
When called upon to review Café Swiss, part of the Swissotel Grand establishment, it was without question that it will be an evening of gluttony. Since it’s opening in 2008, Café Swiss has already carved a reputation for its repertoire of buffet selection.
There is a perception that the restaurants connected to the 5 star hotel chains are simply replicated in carbon copy across the world. A trip to the Intercontinental in Pudong and a discussion with Ivan, its head chef, would soon make anyone put aside any such ideas.

At the new Tianjin Raffles the chef has conquered this problem by focusing the buffet around smaller portions and reducing the dining population to “café” size. The proprietors of Hotel Nikko have chosen the name of their newest restaurant rather aptly. Spectrum All-day Dining has national foods from nearly every color of the rainbow. The eatery specializes in buffet eating, although an a la carte menu is also available for those who miss the main dining hours. I visited Spectrum for their lunchtime buffet open Monday-Saturday, 12:00-2:30pm. At the price of 108 rmb I was surprised by the quality and variety of the buffet layout.

Situated in the heart of luxury shopping area close to West Lake, the premier tourist attraction of Hangzhou, the Hyatt is a perfect option for tourists and business people alike. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Café, the Western restaurant located on the first floor of the hotel.
The Westin Financial Inspired Brunch at Senses (RMB368) is the premiere brunch of Beijing. It sets the bar for all the other hotel brunches and shadows them in its aura.
A buzzing, vibrant and exciting atmosphere of open space and light, the room is a glow with gorgeous displays of epic culinary stations. Immediately catching the eye is the fully presented Australian Wagyu beef, followed by the outdoor station of the best grilled meats of any of the brunches. Including juicy lambs and chops amongst the variety of peppered tender meats and gourmet sauces, the meats are high caliber.
