Fresh ground coffee to awaken the best in a discerning coffee connoisseur.
It was clear to us right from the beginning that the Fukami restaurant at the Sofitel Sheshan was Japanese through and through. A center room filled with natural lighting looks out over a traditional rock garden, and leads into smaller private rooms, some with their own sunken tables, others with dedicated teppanyaki tables.
With strong French influences, this restaurant presents high quality food, presented superbly, at prices that befit a high-end establishment.
The Shanghai Sheshan Oriential Sofitel hotel is located amongst the golf courses, parks and lush greenery to the southwest of Shanghai. In this secluded setting, Sofitel has built a massive resort-like destination that includes everything one would expect from a top end hotel, and more (such as 3400 square meters of outdoors pools). Of particular interest to foodies, it also boasts four separate on-site restaurants.
The JW Marriott Tomorrow Square is one of the most visually spectacular landmarks in the Puxi district. Situated in the heart of People’s Square, this towering skyscraper is home to a collection of fine restaurants managed by Marriott International. Having experienced several pleasant dining occasions at this hotel, I was excited to be invited to the former JW’s California Grill now known as Red @ The Grill.
Everyone has a different idea of paradise. For some, a harem of virgin maidens is prerequisite, others envision a world of everlasting peace. Whatever your viewpoint, there's one feature that everyone agrees on: paradise is made of chocolate. Lucky for us, this week a large chunk of paradise has arrived in Shanghai. It goes by the name of Salon du Chocolat. Beginning with a glitzy opening ceremony on Wednesday evening, the world's largest chocolate show runs until Saturday 23rd, transforming the Shanghai Exhibition Centre a giant box of delights.
A welcoming, clean, spacious environment with western music in the background and a good selection of wine, beer and Irish fare.
Tiffany Spicy has just opened its second branch in Jinqiao International Square in Zhangyang Road, Pudong. Its original branch, in Gonghe Xin Road has been running for five years. Tiffany Spicy Szechuanese but has created many of its own unique dishes.
The restaurant décor is minimalist but elegant. The restaurant owner, a Dongbei native with a passion for southern cuisine, does not need to divert diners’ attention from the food with tacky ostentation or attempting to copy an inn from the Three Kingdoms. Here the focus is on the food and making an exciting dining experience.
LifeHub@JinQiao is a newly built shopping complex in Zhangyang Road in Pudong. It aims to be much more than a shopping centre, however. In the words of Fanny Leung, the marketing director of the complex’s developer, Chongbang Group, it aims to promote “the lifestyle.” LifeHub@JinQiao is in the business not just of providing high-end shops and dining for the local residents but also of creating a virtual community for them – place where people can hang out and relax.
Being born and bred in Southeast Asia, with a mother who cooks nonya cuisine daily (Chinese-Malay cuisine typical of the Straits-born Chinese), I have high expectations when dining in a Southeast Asian restaurant, as well as a high tolerance for anything spicy and highly aromatic.
An exquisite fine dining experience that doesn’t require passage to the Bund.
After walking through a cluster of flag-dancing Chinese housewives, I stumbled into three Michelin-starred chef Martin Berasategui’s latest creation. Nestled on the Hengshan Road side of Xujiahui Park, Restaurant Martin has taken up residence in a historic villa that originally housed the headquarters of EMI in 1921.
