Enjoy an exquisite lunch menu in a contemporary restaurant set in a neo-classical historical building facing the surreal skyline of Pudong.
In the hustle and bustle of Shanghai, most restaurants tend to offer cookie cutter style set lunch menus where “quick and easy” is the operative word. It dawned on me that despite the collection of restaurants in Shanghai, it is not that easy to enjoy a fine lunch in a tranquil setting.
3.top is a smart, modern place where you can retreat from the city buzz without feeling cut off. The atmosphere is one of openness - both to the diverse styles of contemporary Asian food, and to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.
There's something about heavy cutlery that makes me feel on edge. You can really feel the gravity of the situation, like being in an empty museum. Thankfully, 3.top is nothing like a museum - it's light, airy and less than three months old. The cutlery, though, is predictably heavy. I wouldn't want to drop it on those modernist plates. Just need to stay focused.
Mosto’s brunch is everything it should be—exceptional food, warm and attentive service and an upbeat atmosphere--an all-too-short respite from the urbanity that is Beijing.
There is little better in life than drinking excellent wine and savoring a big juicy slab of steak. The Grill at Aman provides exactly this, and it does so in the most memorable and relaxing of settings.
In a competitive restaurant market like Shanghai even staying open for 4 years is no mean feat. Staying buzzworthy in a city where most dining establishments pop up and wither within months is either a miracle or the mark of something great. A Future Perfect might be piggybacking the karma in its name a bit but it's mostly thrived because of that special combination of consistently great food, a central location (though a bit hard to find on your first visit), and alert, professional service.
Nestled within the lush greenery of People’s Park, Art Lab is a wonderfully refreshing concept space that must be experienced. Located on the top level above the Museum of Contemporary Art, it is a combination lounge, gallery, restaurant, and rooftop patio where art and lifestyle meld together in unique interaction.
T8’s reputation and image are so far-reaching that it has become a contemporary Shanghai institution. A sophisticated restaurant in the already posh Xintiandi area, T8 stands tall as one of the most well-known spots in town by both Shanghai residents and those overseas. However, depending on whom you talk to, the hype surrounding T8 is either duly warranted or highly exaggerated.
If there is a district that epitomizes Shanghai blaze towards modernization, the gleaming skyscrapers looming over Lujiazui aptly fits the picture. At the culinary level, if there was a quest for a restaurant that symbolizes avant-garde and modernity, there would be no better contender than Jade on 36. With close to three years of stage time, Jade has received her fair share of compliments and criticisms. It is not easy being different and Jade on 36 certainly pushes the envelope.
When the Beijing fashion set want to wine and dine, there’s one place that rates highly on their list – Beijing Jasmine. Having played host to celebrity gatherings, like the birthday party for Chinese singer/ actress Faye Wong and the 2008 Olympic house for the USA team, the restaurant is the place to go to for celebrity sightings or for when you want to feel like a celebrity yourself.
I had reasonably high expectations going into this restaurant, already being a fan myself of both Room28 and the Wagas chain.
And for the first time in a while on the Shanghai restaurant scene, my expectations were not only met, but exceeded.
