CJW 50 Beyond

CJW 50 Beyond's interior is chic and comfortable, but you may not notice it because it also boasts arguably the city's finest view of Pudong waterfront and the Pearl TV Tower.

Executive chef Kip Oxman's love of food and cooking permeates a sparkling menu replete with colorful juxtapositions of South-east Asian
and Latin flavors that come from the kitchen seemingly painted on large white plates. Our ahi tuna was impossibly iuicy and tender, and contrasted nicely with a tart coriander moio and mashed chickpeas on which it was served. The soft-shell crab was light and crunchy, its deep-fried batter enhancing its texture without detracting from its lovely marine flavors. The succulent if slightly chewy veal chop came enveloped in luscious sun-dried tomatoes and a black olive sauce that contrasted with the bright yellow of the lightly grilled polenta - a
reminder of warmer climes both on the palate and in the eye. The real highlight of Oxman's metier was, however, his porcini-dusted codfish.
Three lightly seared fillets rested on a bed of green-specked herbed risotto in a fragrant pool of sweet red pepper and lemongrass broth - a perfect balance of delicate flesh, aldente aromatic rice, and exotic undertones. A beautiful, memorable meal all round.

Thoughtful and eclectic, the haphazard arrangement of CJW's wine list belies the care that has obviously gone into selecting solid vintages from around the world.

The restaurant's staff are polite and unobtrusive, further contributing to
diners' enjoyment of delicious meals and the magnificent view.

A dinner for two costs about RMB800
