An all American sports bar/restaurant that prides itself on having not only the hottest chicken wings but also the hottest waitresses in town!
For those of you unacquainted with the Hooters’ code of conduct, perhaps a brief background will help set the scene: An all-American sports bar/restaurant that prides itself on having not only the hottest chicken wings but also the hottest (a.k.a. biggest breasted) waitresses in town! Hooters Beijing opened in 1998 and bought with it the traditional American junk, sports and a window into some of the more untoward aspects of American culture. Hooters Beijing has successfully managed to emulate all that would be found in a genuine American chain with, perhaps, the only exception being a slight shortcoming in the actual “hooters” department. That aside, the Chinese Hooters girls handle all other aspects of their role (overly attentive, flirtatious and energetic) with style and as much dignity as can be expected when dressed in a pair of tight, bright? orange hot pants and a similar fitting Hooters tank top.
It may not surprise you to learn that the Hooters chain tends to not brand itself on their gourmet food, serving dishes that are eloquently described as being cooked “breaded or naked.” It is obvious where their real selling point lies. However, I was there to find “the best food in China” and that’s exactly what I intended to do. On the recommendation of the manager I ended up sampling an assortment of dishes: Caesar salad, buffalo chicken wings, steak sandwich, chicken burger and just a smidge of their rich chocolate mousse cake (N.B this feast of a meal was shared between two and I did say sample). The majority of the dishes where as I had expected; they caused no slander to the fast food family name but at the same time did not overly endorse this type of cuisine. The chicken wings, however, were the best I have ever had – not too greasy, crisped to perfection and with an interesting fusion of East meets West spice.
During the course of the meal I was lucky enough to witness two of the bi-hourly Hooters girls boogie, a series of lively, amusingly choreographed dances that seem to awaken the girls from an otherwise humdrum trance and turn them into dancing machines. These acts of fine art, oddly enough, seemed to be aimed more towards the male clientele. With high kicks and shaking booties, there were certainly one or two happy patrons with a contented look on their face. Needless to say, Hooters is perhaps not the best place to take a first date, in fact it’s probably not the place to take any date - full stop. It is however the perfect setting for a “lads night out” or a place to go for a few drinks, some damn good chicken wings and a catch up on your preferred sport of choice.
