Best Food In China

If you like good old American BBQ and steak, Yeeha is the place you are looking for. The owner is a wonderful man who owns another restaurant in Houston Texas with the family of Yao Ming. His goal is to exchange culture through food by owning an upscale Chinese restaurant in Houston and a BBQ restaurant in Shanghai.

Having been disappointed with “proper” beef many times while in china, I went to Yeeha with red pen in hand ready to do my worst. I however, was delightfully surprised at what I found.

The theme chosen for Yeeha is that of an American sports bar. The owner is a wonderful man who owns another restaurant in Houston Texas with the family of Yao Ming. His goal is to exchange culture through food by owning an upscale Chinese restaurant in Houston and a BBQ restaurant in Shanghai.

We started dinner with some appetizers. The Tuna salad (25rmb) we order was served fresh with a special Chinese vinaigrette dressing with the proper mix of vegetables. The Ceaser salad (25rmb) was adequate as comfort food but, given the choice, the Tuna is the better of the two. Along with our salads came an order of Mozzarella Sticks. This quick snack was just like I remember from back home. A nice crispy crust with a gooey cheesy interior. If you’re ever out for a late night snack or just miss something familiar, these cheese sticks will hit the spot. Up to this point the food had been roughly what I had expected, the salads were ok and the cheese sticks reminded me of home.

If you are like me, you will have had a difficult time finding a good slice of meat in China for a reasonable price. That is why I was delighted when our meat arrived. The first item was the BBQ spare ribs (68rmb). This plate was so tender and juicy that it didn’t really need any sauce. The sauce is of course available and reminds me a of sweet BBQ sauce from America. For only 68 rmb this seems like a steal as they are the best ribs I have had since leaving America. When the Ribeye Steak (88rmb) came I cautiously cut in afraid that I would see the wrong color. To my delight it was cooked to perfection. The steak itself was exactly what you would expect and served along with a delicious serving of mashed potatoes. If you are here for dinner you can wash all of the food down with a 1.5 liter glass of Tiger beer for 15 rmb or take advantage of the drink special they have on Murphy’s beer. It is 58 rmb for 1.5 liters and buy one get one up to June.

The special thing about Yeeha is that after spending your first few minutes inside you begin to feel like you are in America. Yeeha reminds me of many neighborhood bar/restaurants from when I was growing up. My father would say it has good bar food and if you want a good steak go there. My friends would choose it as the local watering hole to go to after work. Given the owners goal of culture through food, he nails it. The quality of the meat and the American ambience hit the mark. This is a great place to visit with friends or family for any reason.
